Kickstart Your Day with a Chilli Egg Avo Smash on Low Carb Bread

A friend of the team sent through this delicious recipe, and we thought it was too good not to share. Soft-boiled eggs, avo smash with chilli, chives, coriander and more... yum! We wouldn’t go past recommending our Lower Carb Bread, which pairs perfectly with the flavours, while staying low on carbs and high in protein. Herman Brot Lower Carb Bread: Our Low Carb bread is a favourite among health enthusiasts for its low carbohydrate content and high protein, making it an excellent choice for a balanced diet. It offers a dense, satisfying texture and a subtly earthy flavour, ideal as a base for various toppings.

Avocado: Avocado is creamy and buttery with a rich, nutty flavour, packed with heart-healthy monounsaturated fats and a good dose of fibre. Its smooth texture makes it perfect for spreading or adding a lush, velvety component to dishes.

Egg: Eggs are, well... Eggs! They provide high-quality protein along with essential vitamins and minerals. A mild flavour, with the yolk being rich and creamy.. yum. Who doesn't love some eggs!

Lime: Lime adds a fresh, tangy edge to any dish, with its zesty and slightly sweet notes. It's also a great source of vitamin C, which can brighten and refresh flavours... it works particularly well squeezed over guacamole or avocado mash!

Chilli: Chilli brings heat and a piquant flavour that can vary in intensity. It's also known for boosting metabolism and adding depth to dishes with its spicy kick. Leave the seeds behind, or chase a milder variant if you aren't after the kick.

Fresh Coriander: Coriander leaves offer a vibrant, citrusy flavour with a hint of peppery, earthy notes. They are often used to infuse freshness and a slight bite into culinary creations.

Chives: Chives have a mild onion flavour with a hint of garlic and are perfect for adding a subtle sharpness and a pop of green colour to dishes.

Salt, Pepper & Dukkah: Salt and pepper are essential for enhancing the natural flavours of ingredients, while dukkah adds a nutty and spicy crunch, bringing a delightful texture and complex taste profile to the dish.

Chill Egg Avo Smash Recipe

Ingredients - Makes One Slice: 
- 1 Slice of Herman Brot Low Carb Bread  
- 1/2 Avocado 
- 1 Egg 
- Lime 
- Chilli to taste 
- Fresh Coriander to taste 
- Chives to taste 
- Salt, Pepper & Dukkah to taste 


  1. Finely Chop the Chilli, Fresh Coriander and Chives. Don’t overdo the coriander or chives and add as much chilli as you can tolerate (removing the seeds helps a lot with the spiciness). 
  2. Cut your avocado in half and spoon out the flesh into a bowl. Throw in your chopped chilli, coriander and chives and mash it all together.
  3. Boil your egg. We like our eggs in the softer side, but if you like yours harder follow this guide. Bring the water to boil, the drop your egg in for 4-5minutes + short rest for runny. 6-7 minutes + short rest for soft. 8-10 minutes + short rest of hard. Temps may vary so try one out to see what you like.
  4. Toast one slice of Herman Brot Low Carb Bread, and butter it if you like.
  5. Generously spread your avo smash mixture onto the bread, and top with a squeeze of lime, salt, pepper and dukkah to taste. If you have any leftover chives and coriander, feel free to sprinkle some over the top. 
  6. That’s it – Enjoy!
